Common Questions
Are service dogs required to be registered?
No. Service dogs are not required to be registered under the ADA. Alpha Service Dog Registration offers a voluntary private registration service that provides an organized registration record, ID card, and tags for your service dog. Registration with our service does not grant or determine ADA access rights.
What information do I need to register my service dog?
To register with Alpha Service Dog Registration, you will need to provide basic information about the handler and service dog, including the dog’s name, breed, and the work or tasks the dog has been trained to perform. A photo of the dog may also be requested for the registration record. Registration with our service is voluntary and is not required by the ADA.
Can I register a dog that is not trained as a service animal?
Our registry is intended for dogs that are individually trained to perform specific work or tasks for a person with a disability. Pets and emotional support animals that are not trained to perform disability-related tasks are not eligible for service dog registration.
Is registration required for public transportation?
No. Registration with Alpha Service Dog Registration is not required for public transportation. Our ID cards and tags provide a convenient way to identify your service dog and maintain a personal registration record, but they do not grant or guarantee public access or transportation rights.
How long is the registration process?
Registration can be completed the same day. Alpha Service Dog Registration offers convenient in-home visits and video call appointments. Once the required information is collected and the registration process is completed, your service dog can be registered that same day.
